How much does land clearing cost in Georgetown?

Land clearing in Georgetown costs $2,000 – $4,000 per acre, with a $1,000 minimum job and free on-site estimates.

Where your property falls in that range comes down to these factors:

🌳

Acreage

Larger properties generally require more time, labor, and equipment, affecting the overall project scope.

🌲

Tree Density

Properties with dense trees, thick brush, or heavy vegetation typically require more work than lightly wooded land.

🏞️

Terrain

Steep slopes, rocky ground, creeks, and uneven terrain can increase the complexity of a land clearing project.

🚜

Property Access

Limited access, narrow gates, or difficult terrain may require specialized equipment or additional planning.

🪨

Rock & Obstacles

Large rocks, boulders, existing structures, and buried debris can add time and equipment requirements.

🌱

Stump Removal

Removing stumps and root systems creates a build-ready site but requires more work than clearing vegetation alone.

🪵

Debris Disposal

Debris can be mulched, piled, hauled away, or processed depending on your project's goals and site conditions.

✅

Desired Finish

Whether you need selective clearing, a clean homesite, pasture restoration, or a completely build-ready property will influence the scope of work.

How long does land clearing take in Georgetown, and what's the process?

Land clearing in Georgetown typically covers 6–7 acres per day in light brush, 5–6 acres per day in medium brush, and 4–5 acres per day in thick cedar with our excavator. Acres per day depend on ground conditions and terrain.

Land Clearing

We remove unwanted trees, brush, stumps, rocks, and debris while protecting valuable vegetation whenever possible. When we clear land, pulling out the trees often brings rock up to the surface with the roots. After clearing, we run our Harley rake over the ground to level it out and pick up the leftover debris and rock, leaving a clean, smooth finish.

Georgetown's Unique Land Clearing Challenges

Georgetown sits on the Balcones Escarpment at the eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau, so the ground changes across town. On the west and northwest side, Edwards Limestone sits close to the surface and outcrops show up on properties. Toward the east, the land drops into deep, clay-rich Blackland Prairie soil. Lake Georgetown, a reservoir on the North Fork of the San Gabriel River, sits just west of town.

Live oak, pecan, cedar elm, mesquite and hackberry are common, with cedar (Ashe juniper) mostly on the rockier west side. You'll find farms, ranches, acreage and homesites next to new residential and commercial development. Georgetown is about 22 miles from our Bertram base.

Where your property sits matters here. West-side ground tends to have limestone near the surface, while east-side ground is deeper clay.

Our Work in Georgetown

Our Georgetown work is a good example of selective clearing. On a 5-acre property just outside city limits, the owner wanted to save his oaks, so we pulled the small cedar out from under and around them one at a time with our CAT 299, including along the fence line. The job took two days, and we piled the cedar for burning.

That property also had plenty of large rock, which is common on Georgetown's west side, where limestone sits close to the surface. See the full project

Should I choose land clearing or forestry mulching?

Choose traditional land clearing when you need bare, stump-free ground for a home, driveway, building pad, or septic system. Choose forestry mulching when you want to keep the good trees, skip the burn piles and hauling, and leave a layer of mulch that protects the soil.

Traditional Land Clearing

  • Removes trees, brush, stumps, and root systems
  • Creates a build-ready site
  • Best for construction and development
  • Ideal for home sites and commercial projects
  • Allows grading and excavation to begin
  • Produces a completely cleared property
  • Removes heavy vegetation permanently
VS

Forestry Mulching

  • Grinds brush and small trees into mulch
  • Leaves the existing root systems in place
  • Best for property maintenance
  • Ideal for ranches, hunting properties, and recreational land
  • Minimal ground disturbance
  • Leaves a natural layer of protective mulch
  • Excellent for controlling invasive brush

Texas A&M Forest Service advises against pruning or wounding oaks from February through June, when the beetles that spread oak wilt are most active, and recommends painting any fresh oak wound right away, any time of year. It lists land and cedar clearing as one source of those wounds.

Texas A&M Forest Service: preventing oak wilt

Often, yes. Inside Georgetown city limits and its ETJ, removing or pruning a Heritage Tree or Protected Tree requires a city permit. Heritage Trees are 26 inches or larger in diameter at breast height and of listed species such as live oak, post oak, cedar elm, pecan and southern magnolia. Heritage tree work also needs Planning & Zoning approval and a Texas-registered arborist. Our 5-acre Georgetown cedar job was outside city limits, so it didn't need a city tree permit. Ask the city's Urban Forester at trees@georgetowntexas.gov before you clear.
